Mary Fortson-Harwell is a Clinical Assistant Professor and MSW Field Education Director in the UCCS School of Public Affairs. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in CO, GA, and CA, and has over a decade of social work experience in both civilian and military settings. She received her MSW from the University of Georgia in 2010, and a PhD in International Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University in 2017.
Dr. Fortson-Harwell has practice experience addressing a range of issues such as grief and bereavement, inpatient and outpatient medical social work, refugee resettlement, and non-profit management. She has provided teaching and training in evidence-based practices for trauma- and resilience-informed care to mental health professionals throughout the United States.
Dr. Fortson-Harwell currently serves as a Clinical Social Worker and Behavioral Health Officer in the Colorado Army National Guard. She looks forward to developing collaborations and field placement opportunities with the Colorado Springs social work community!
