Social Work Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

for the Department of Social Work

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

All social work programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) measure and report student learning outcomes, which are based on the 9 social work competencies outlined in the CSWE accreditation standards. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice which all social workers are expected to master during their professional training.

CSWE uses standardized forms to assist the Commission on Accreditation (COA) in the evaluation of the program’s compliance with Accreditation Standards stated below.

Accreditation Standards

  • 4.0.2

The program provides summary data and outcomes for the assessment of each of its competencies, identifying the percentage of students achieving each benchmark.

  • 4.0.4

The program uses Form AS 4 (B) and/or Form AS4 (M) to report its most recent assessment outcomes to constituents and the public on its website and routinely up-dates (minimally every 2 years) these postings.

Measurement & Benchmarks

Social work programs set a measurement benchmark for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency.  Both the UCCS Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs set their competency benchmark at 80%.  The assessment plan and results from the most recent BSW and MSW assessment of student learning are reported using the required CSWE forms and available to the public at the following links.
